Despite losing Ryan O’Reilly to a bruised foot, the Avalanche did a great job on the penalty kill tonight against the St. Louis Blues. The energy on the ice was high as the Avs came off a 3-0 shutout vs. Edmonton on the 6th. The Blues came out of the gate strong, getting on the scoreboard first, but were soon shut down by the Avalanche’s overall game.

In the words of Adrian Dater, “Avs look like garbage so far.”  I’m not too sure about that, I didn’t get to see the game since I was at work, but for a guy who has covered these guys forever, you’ve got to take his word for it.  Also, most of this post is going to be from the highlights I got to watch on YouTube.  Here we go:

Avs Send Blue Jackets Packing

This was a hell of a game for the Colorado Avalanche.  After losing 6-1 against the Washington Capitals, they needed a win.  A good win.  And they got that against the Jackets tonight at the Pepsi Center.  With the Calgary Flames’ 5-3 loss to the Nashville Predators, the Avalanche again took first place in the Northwest Division.  You can break down the Avs game into about 11 minutes of regulation time.

Foote Finds Victory in Columbus

In his first game since leaving the Columbus Blue Jackets, Avalanche captain Adam Foote has something to smile about. The Avs scored 3 goals against his former team in their first meeting this season. Foote was traded to Columbus in 2005 where he played three seasons before being traded back to Colorado before the deadline in the 2007-08 season. In the last two years, Foote has been injured when the Avs came up against the Jackets, so this was his first meeting with them since the trade.
