While the Colorado Avalanche greatly improved over a dismal season last year, shattering expectations left and right and arguably putting up more of a fight than the Detroit Red Wings against the San Jose Sharks in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Avalanche were bogged down throughout the regular and post-season by their defensive situation.

That’s right folks, your Colorado Avalanche just did the impossible and beat the San Jose Sharks 2-1 in San Jose for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Just like at the start of the regular season, “pundits” didn’t predict much out of the Avs, and they have started to prove everyone wrong, again.

The Nashville Predators managed to shut down the youthful Colorado Avalanche, netting their 3rd win against the Avs this season and drawing ever closer to Colorado in the Western Conference points race. With every game being immensely important at this point in the season, last night’s loss was devastating to the team.
