Potential NHL Rule Changes

I was reading a post at the temporary home of Put It On Ice today about the potential rule changes the NHL is trying out before the season starts and I decided that I wanted to share my contempt and consideration of the proposals put forward. Score: A Hockey Musical To Open TIFF

While there have been a few hockey movies now and then to introduce new fans to the sport, they have arguably been few and far between. Almost every hockey fan has enjoyed Slap Shot, Youngblood, Mystery Alaska, Miracle, or even the shockingly funny film The Love Guru. Some are great, some are classic, some are just flat out ridiculous, but I think we can all agree that hockey movies are awesome!

The Chicago Blackhawks stormed through the 2009-10 NHL postseason, taking no prisoners and rightly proclaiming Lord Stanley’s Cup as their trophy. Then they went out and had to clean house, losing nearly half of the team that got them the championship. Nobody can blame the ‘Hawks for essentially buying themselves a cup. They did what they needed to have a team that could compete.

Brandon Yip Inked For 2

According to the Denver Post, the Colorado Avalanche have inked Brandon Yip to a two year, $1.45 million deal.

Adios Brett Clark

While the Colorado Avalanche may have not figured Brett Clark to have a place in their blossoming young team, at least one other General Manager thinks otherwise. The newly appointed Vice President and General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning was quick to snatch up such a catch.

Dan Winnik, Come On Down

Dan Winnik, come on down. You’re the newest member of the Colorado Avalanche. That’s right, in a move reminiscent of the old days, the Avs have forfeited a future (4th round, 2011) draft pick to our favorite Phoenix Coyotes in return for 25-year-old left winger Daniel Winnik.

Avs Shock All With First Pick

The Colorado Avalanche shocked everyone at the 2010 NHL Draft, selecting a player many consider extremely under the first round radar. Fans and analysts alike have been left wondering just what the Avalanche were thinking in drafting Joey Hishon so high.
