According to the Denver Post, the Colorado Avalanche have inked Brandon Yip to a two year, $1.45 million deal.

I know it has been somewhat quiet here on the news front and I attribute most of that to the fact that there has been hardly any important happenings as of late. I will also admit that I had to go through my post-season mourning period as well. With that said, today we have seen a little taste of what is to come for the Colorado Avalanche this season.

Voting on the 2010 Mark Messier Leadership Award has been underway for a few weeks now, with each week seeing a different set of players to be voted in. This week one of our very own is nominated and he needs the help of us fans to get him into the running. Colorado Avalanche defenseman and team captain Adam Foote is up against the likes of Jamie Langenbrunner, captain of the New Jersey Devils (and Team USA), and Ryan Callahan, assistant captain of the New York Rangers.

As far as I’m concerned, this game basically determines the outcome of the entire 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. I know there is ice dancing, bobsledding, nordic skiing, terrible Team USA curling, and even downhill skiing. But to me, this is all that matters. And in an event mirroring that of the Women’s Tournament, it all came down to USA vs. Canada – the rematch.

In a closely paired, back and forth bout between the young and unappreciated Team USA and the typically tough to knock out Switzerland, the Red, White and Blue came out victorious, moving on to the Semifinal round against the winner of Finland vs. the Czech Republic.
