Stewart Inks A Two Year Deal

Chris Stewart Warm Up 2010 BB

Before the ink was dry on the contract, news was leaked to the Denver Post that forward Chris Stewart signed a two year deal with the Colorado Avalanche. The contract was to the tune of $6 million. As for the drought of Avs related news this off-season, hundreds of fans of the burgundy and blue threw their hats up in air from unconditional happiness.

Forget that commute you were planning to the Air Force Academy this September (remember when it was at DU?) because the Colorado Avalanche, intra-squad, for charity Burgundy and White game will be played on Monday, September 20th, at the 1STBANK Center (formerly the Broomfield Event Center) in… you guessed it, Broomfield, CO.

Offseason Analysis: Defense

While the Colorado Avalanche greatly improved over a dismal season last year, shattering expectations left and right and arguably putting up more of a fight than the Detroit Red Wings against the San Jose Sharks in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Avalanche were bogged down throughout the regular and post-season by their defensive situation.

Avs Drop Another Stinker In the Can

Ruslan Salei BB

The Chicago Blackhawks came into Denver with the possibility of overtaking the San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference standings. A win for Colorado, icing on the cake. The Avs had some key players sitting out again tonight, among them Adam Foote and Milan Hejduk. Paul Stastny was back in the lineup after a night up, but his number of minutes was cut from normal.

After seeing this on the Avalanche website, I have my doubts that Milan Hejduk and Marek Svatos will not be ready to play tomorrow against the Columbus Blue Jackets.  Justin Mercier and Ryan Stoa were reassigned to the Lake Erie Monsters while Chris Durno and Brandon Yip were called up.  I’m not saying that the Duke won’t play on Saturday, Joe Sacco is just being cautious in case Hejduk doesn’t feel up to it.  Durno or Yip could play the part of healthy scratch for all we know.
