Adrian Dater at the Denver Post is reporting that Colorado Avalanche Captain Adam Foote has agreed to a one-year deal with the Avalanche. This likely means that Footer will captain a final season with the Avs, much like Joe Sakic did previously.

Offseason Analysis: Defense

While the Colorado Avalanche greatly improved over a dismal season last year, shattering expectations left and right and arguably putting up more of a fight than the Detroit Red Wings against the San Jose Sharks in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Avalanche were bogged down throughout the regular and post-season by their defensive situation.

That’s All, Folks!

The San Jose Sharks came out the victors in Game 6 against the Avalanche. This was a team the critics said would end the season in last place. It didn’t happen, the Avs went on to be the 8th place team in the Western Conference and have a chance at the Stanley Cup. The critics then said the young team from Colorado would get swept by the “powerhouse” Sharks in the first round. Again, didn’t happen. The Avalanche exited in Game 6 and blew all the critics away.

Game Two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Colorado Avalanche and the San Jose Sharks. The Avs upset the Sharks in Game 1, outplaying the #1 Western Conference seed and winning 2-1. It was a night of upsets as the Montreal Canadiens also defeated #1 Eastern Conference seed, the Washington Capitals. So far these 2010 Playoffs have had more upsets than “what’s supposed to happen.” I like it that way. That’s real Playoff hockey.

The entire season could diminish in just 60 minutes here tonight. I won’t say it’s over if the Colorado Avalanche fall to the Calgary Flames, but the point lead would be reduced to zero and it would be a flat out even sprint to the finish line. This IS a playoff game.

Avs Drop Another Stinker

The Colorado Avalanche Score Against the Anaheim Ducks

As much as fans would love to blame someone else for this game (refs), the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks sat squarely on the team’s shoulders. It still seems to be a matter of core fundamentals that are costing this team valuable points in a race for 8th place that is quickly becoming unbearably tight.

The Triumphant Return of Ryan Wilson

Ryan Wilson

Stop the presses, the Colorado Avalanche received even more good news today. According to Avs Coach Joe Sacco, Ryan Wilson will in fact be in the lineup tonight as the Avalanche continue their fight for a playoff birth when taking on the Anaheim Ducks at the Can.
