Why Tyler Weiman Left

In case you hadn’t heard, Colorado Avalanche sensational “goalie-in-the-wings” Tyler Weiman signed with the Vancouver Canucks yesterday. While this may come as a surprise to many who imagined him the heir apparent to Colorado’s throne, that just didn’t seem like it would ever come to be.

The Colorado Avalanche organization was proud to announce the resigning of two members of last year’s team. Both David Koci and Peter Budaj have been signed to single year contracts.

While fans of the Colorado Avalanche may have expected this for a while, Avalanche Head Coach Joe Sacco was announced as a finalist for the Coach of the Year (Jack Adams Award) by the NHL today.

That’s All, Folks!

The San Jose Sharks came out the victors in Game 6 against the Avalanche. This was a team the critics said would end the season in last place. It didn’t happen, the Avs went on to be the 8th place team in the Western Conference and have a chance at the Stanley Cup. The critics then said the young team from Colorado would get swept by the “powerhouse” Sharks in the first round. Again, didn’t happen. The Avalanche exited in Game 6 and blew all the critics away.

Sharks Handed Game on a Silver Platter

The Colorado Avalanche, also known as the underdogs, have been giving the San Jose Sharks a run for their money. The Avs have had to transition their game to nearly 100% defense to shut down the Sharks top two lines and they’ve been doing a good job of it. Unfortunately tonight in the Shark Tank, they were never once called for too many men on the ice. The Sharks had 9 total on ice at all times, not including Evgeni Nabokov, and four of them were wearing black and white stripes.

Sharks Bite Back in OT

I’ll start off by saying that the better team didn’t win tonight. The Sharks pulled an over time win against the Avalanche with a shot from Joe Pavelski, screened by an Avalanche defenseman. It was a disappointing loss seeing how the Avalanche played worlds better than their OT win on Sunday night, getting more shots on goal and playing better defense. In fact, the OT win was the only even strength goal of the game.

Game 4 Roster Update

It has already been a brutal Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Colorado Avalanche, who have seen key players drop like flies to various injuries. If you go back to the Peter Mueller injury, things have been pretty bad. So much so that Coach Sacco has been forced to perform a game 4 roster shuffle.
