This just doesn’t seem to be the season for Ruslan Salei. He played a single game to start the season and injured his back, missing the majority of the the games and only managing to play in one before the Olympics. While in Vancouver Salei captained Team Belarus, who unfortunately drop all four of their games before returning home. He then returned to the Avalanche to play in 4 more games, and that may be it for the season.
In what was one close matched, hard fought showdown between 8th seed Switzerland and 9th seed Belarus, the Swiss came out on top. They move on to the 2010 Winter Olympics quarterfinals to challenge Team USA and Colorado Avalanche forward Paul Stastny in game 1.
With the 2010 Winter Olympics Men’s Hockey Tournament preliminary rounds finished, it is time we take a look at the standings and the overall larger playoff picture. There are a few surprises this year regarding the “Super Six” of Canada, Russia, Sweden, Finland, the USA, and the Czech Republic.
With only two days worth of games before the first day off of the tournament, things were starting to heat up quite a bit. The importance of each game was suddenly more apparent and many had seen some surprise games already.

Better late than never I always say, so here it is: Day two of our Men’s Olympic Hockey Coverage. This was another exciting day of seeing who is bringing what to the tournament as well as basically ranking teams based on their performance (likely erroneous judgements at best).
While the 2010 Olympics Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament is clearly underway, a few roster shuffles have been logged today, with one team, Slovakia, having until tomorrow morning to finalize their starting lineup.
