The Chopping Block Part 2: Guardian(s)

Budaj

Here we go with Part 2 of The Chopping Block: Who Can We Afford to Let Go? It’s been a little hard compiling this list of people who I think we can safely trade. As it stands, I think the Avs are doing a great job, but they could be doing better. I’d really like to see an amazing playoff run by them this year, even though it’s slated as a rebuilding year. That’s why I started this little project of mine during the Olympic break. Part 2 – Guardian(s):

Olympic Rosters – Part 1 *Updated*

Jason_Reitman

The International Ice Hockey Federation has half of this year’s Olympic Hockey team rosters available to peruse online today, with another five being announced tomorrow. The Team USA roster won’t be released until January 1st, during the Winter Classic game. Things aren’t looking good for team USA at this point but hey, we had the Miracle on Ice remember?

Avs Nail Thrashers in OT

With the Thrashers losing top scorer Ilya Kovalchuk to the Devils this week, no one thought they’d show up to play… and boy, were we wrong. The first period started out with a garbage goal for the Thrashers, to which the Avs answered back almost immediately with a goal by Clark. Stastny set him up for the perfect shot; a skill he’s perfected to a T. A Thrasher penalty and an Avs power play, which produced nothing but a bunch of…well, nothing. Passing the puck around and not capitalizing on opportunities pretty much sums it up. Game tied 1-1 at the end of the first.

Lake Erie Monsters points leader and oft touted badass of the AHL, Darren Haydar, has been called up by the Colorado Avalanche and could make his debut tonight. He would join current call ups Chris Durno and Justin Mercier.

Despite losing Ryan O’Reilly to a bruised foot, the Avalanche did a great job on the penalty kill tonight against the St. Louis Blues. The energy on the ice was high as the Avs came off a 3-0 shutout vs. Edmonton on the 6th. The Blues came out of the gate strong, getting on the scoreboard first, but were soon shut down by the Avalanche’s overall game.

Ryan O’Reilly Out Vs. Blues

O'Reilly fights Vancouver for the puck

According to Colorado Avalanche Coach Joe Sacco’s pregame, Ryan O’Reilly will not play tonight against the St. Louis Blues. O’Reilly is suffering from a bruised foot, which was injured Saturday night against the Edmonton Oilers. Good news here is that testing came back negative on breaks and further damage, so hopefully he’ll be back soon.
