Avalanche beat reporter Adrian dater has just posted that Ryan Stoa is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury suffered after a hard hit last night in Dallas. Shortly after this hit, I mentioned that Dallas was playing a pretty rough game against the Avs, who fell to the Stars 3-2.
Stoa left the game after a hard hit in the right corner of the Dallas zone. He skated to the bench under his own power and play continued as he walked to the locker room with an Avalanche trainer.
Stoa has played 6 games with the Avalanche this season, being called up twice from the Lake Erie Monsters. He currently has a +/- of -3 and received his first NHL point with an assist against the Nashville Predators on January 22nd.
The Avalanche have yet to call up anyone from Lake Erie to replace Stoa, leading the Avalanche Blogging Community to think that Marek Svatos may return to the lineup tomorrow night agains the New York Rangers, but remains to be seen or heard from coach Joe Sacco.
The lineup is also awaiting the return of Matt Hendricks, who has been out with a mysterious ankle injury. Ryan Wilson and Adam Foote have both returned to the ice since being injured. Wilson suffered a concussion a few games ago and Foote injured an ankle before that.
So whether Stoa’s shoulder injury is a separation or bruised, I feel for the kid. He was just starting to get the hang of the NHL, though still finding his speed, and I think if he had more time he would have stepped up like many of the rookies in the lineup. We’ll be sure to update after more information is released.
