Preissing In

Tom Preissing gets to debut his much discussed, hit or miss talent tonight against the Vancouver Canucks in what Coach Sacco is calling a “must win” game.

Roberto Luongo is suiting up against the Avs tonight. This tends to bode well for us as he struggles against the Avs and we have the offensive punch of Milan Hejduk back as well. Hejduk is just on right now.

Let’s all be excited to see what kind of impact Preissing will have on the team. Besides an off time in LA, where until recently hockey player’s stats went to die, he has been an outstanding blue liner. No doubt Wilson will sit tonight. Don’t be surprised to see the young ‘uns vanish when we see Liles, and Salei back in the mix.

Speaking of younger players, Sean at Anyone But Detroit has posted an open letter to Kyle Cumiskey, apologizing for his pre-season judgement and lauding his accomplishments thus far. I’m in agreement that Cumiskey has played better than most expected and I’d gladly see him play over Hannan or Clark, probably Rusty too when he gets back (we’ll have to see).

GEO at The Avslova Factor posted some quarter season ramblings thursday, singing the praises of Scott Hannan while essentially calling Clark a wuss for getting injured so often. Often a source of my Avs frustration, I must say that Clark is playing fairly well this season, unlike Hannan, who is turnover prone and is basically not getting it done for me this season. I wouldn’t mind dumping his salary, and maybe Clark’s and just keeping Cumiskey and Wilson up top.

Moving on to the jerseys, the consensus seems to be loathing for the new apparel. I want to see them on the ice before I decide, but I was a fan of the other third jersey, despite it being bland and suddenly disappearing. Puck Daddy has aligned itself conveniently in the middle, citing others but reserving judgement as well. If you’re thinking about getting one of the new, hot off the press, uniforms, check out a humorous yet brutally truthful guide to selecting the right player to represent by Jibblescribbits.

*Sorry but I did buy a Svatos jersey, and yes I am prone to saying, “but the potential” since his two injuries… but hey, at least it’s not Arnason(stop wearing these people) or Skoula.

Frenchy, at Real Denver Sports, has a nice write up about fans selecting Joe Sakic’s 2nd goal in Team Canada’s 2002 Olympic Gold finale as the “Most Significant Goal of the Last Decade”. Sakic and Co. helped bring Canada their first Olympic Gold in 50 years.

Lastly, Fox Sports has a decent blip about Ryan O’Reilly and basically how much of a BAMF he is. Let’s face it, the kid was leading the league in +/- (he’s fallen down to 2nd as of today), is tied for the rookie scoring lead and is basically a shoe-in for the Calder this year. Once Duchene finds his groove and can finish his plays, we’re going to be a force to be reckoned with.

T.J. Galiardi is skating and looks poised to return early, according to Avs Man Adrian Dater. No word on Liles.

Doesn’t the thought of this team, with the return of Forsberg just seem orgasmic? What do you think of the boys this year? Thoughts on the defense situation?
