Potential NHL Rule Changes

I was reading a post at the temporary home of Put It On Ice today about the potential rule changes the NHL is trying out before the season starts and I decided that I wanted to share my contempt and consideration of the proposals put forward. The Chicago Blackhawks stormed through the 2009-10 NHL postseason, taking no prisoners and rightly proclaiming Lord Stanley’s Cup as their trophy. Then they went out and had to clean house, losing nearly half of the team that got them the championship. Nobody can blame the ‘Hawks for essentially buying themselves a cup. They did what they needed to have a team that could compete.

While the Colorado Avalanche greatly improved over a dismal season last year, shattering expectations left and right and arguably putting up more of a fight than the Detroit Red Wings against the San Jose Sharks in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Avalanche were bogged down throughout the regular and post-season by their defensive situation.

While fans of the Colorado Avalanche may have expected this for a while, Avalanche Head Coach Joe Sacco was announced as a finalist for the Coach of the Year (Jack Adams Award) by the NHL today.

Duchene Makes Top 3 In Calder Race

Colorado Avalanche rookie savior Matt Duchene has been announced as a top 3 candidate to receiver the Calder Trophy for the 2009-2010 NHL season. The Calder Trophy is the honor the league bestows upon the rookie of the year.

I’m writing to you to address a growing concern about your ability to fairly officiate this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs. While this comes from a blog based solely around the Colorado Avalanche, your current level of officiating has fans of all team colors concerned and at times enraged.
